Located in lower reaches of Xiang River, Changsha is the capital city of Hubei province. Covering an area of 11819 square kilometers with a population of 6.47 million, it is the political, economic and cultural center of Hubei province. The history of Changsha can be traced as early as 3000 years ago. At the same time, the time-honored history endowed the city with abundant historical and cultural relics. Consequently, Changsha is awarded by the state council as one of the first batch historical and cultural cities.

Shaoshan is spectacular with green trees and strange peaks. It has sights like Stone Houses with Blowing Breeze, Yanzhi Well, Dropping Water Cave and more. The village of Shaoshan which is 130 kilometers southwest of Changsha is the hometown of great Chairman Mao Zedong. People erected a statue of the Chairman and have preserved the houses he lived as a tourist site. Changsha is a gathering place of great writers. Built in 976, Yuelu Academy is one of the four famous ancient academies in China. It is also the most perfectly protected antique academy in our country. Most of the extant buildings were in the style of Ming and Qing Dynasties. The gardens in Yuelu Academy are full with profound Huxiang culture. The gardens are different from the luxury style of royal gardens in northern China or the gorgeous layout of private gardens in southern China. These gardens are in the style of elegance, displaying the pursuit and sprit of scholars.

Changsha Climate
Changsha belongs to subtropical humid monsoon climate, featuring distinct four seasons. The scorching summer and cold winter are long in Changsha, while pleasant spring and autumn are short. The summer comes around the later May with high heat and heavy humidity. Especially, July and August, the weather is extremely sweltering. Even if you stand on river bank, there are no winds bring you cool feelings. However, in winter, the weather can be cold as in north China due to the humidity bringing by winds from Xiang River.

The best seasons to travel in Changsha are spring and autumn. Since the weather in spring is changeable, you’d better put overcoat in you travel package.

Changsha Transportation
By air
Located in Huanghua County, the Huanghua International Airport is 24 kilometers away from the center of Changsha. You can take shuttle bus from downtown to the airport, which takes 40minutes more or less and the fare is 15RMB per person. There are also public buses to the airport which will spend a little more time.

At present, this airport has opened 56 flight courses, connecting 45 cities in home and abroad. International flights to Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong are available. There are domestic flight flying to many cities in China, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chongqing and Shanghai and more.

By train
Changsha railway station is suited at Dongzhanlu and it is an important modern station. Everyday, there are trains to and from many cities in China, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and more. Traveling by train is economical. At the same time, you will have the chance to scan landscapes of many places. If time permitted, it will be a good choice.

By taxi
When you are traveling in a new city, it is necessary to know about the taxi fare of that city. In Changsha, the starting fare is 3RMB for the first 1 kilometer. Within 3 kilometers, every 0.5 kilometer will be charged 1RMB. Once over 3 kilometers, 1.8RMB is charged for each additional kilometer. And, in night time, the fare will be added 1RMB at the base of that of daytime. Once over 3 kilometers, 2.16RMB will be charged for each additional kilometer.
