Located in the middle of China’s coastline and the northern flank of prosperous Yangtze River Delta, Ningbo is a time-honored city, in east of Zhejiang province. Covering an area of 9365square kilometers with a population of 5.3 million, Ningbo is one of the famous historical and cultural cities, one of the three economic centers of Zhenjiang province. Beijing one of excellent tourist cities, Ningbo attracts numerous tourists from home and abroad.

With a history of 7000 years, Ningbo was the birthplace of developed Hemudu Stone culture. From Humudu site, which is located in Hemudu village in Yuyao city, rice, animal remains, wooden buildings and ceramic have been unearthed. It proves that Ningbo just like the Yellow Valley, Yangtze Valley is also the origin of Chinese brilliant civilization. During the Spring and Autumn Period, Ningbo is the prefecture of Yue. Ningbo is a world-famous port city. In the Tang Dynasty, Ningbo was the major port to do business with Japan and Southeast Asian countries. Listed as one of the three big trade ports in the Tang and Song Dynasty respectively, it was the starting point of the silk and ceramics road on the sea. After the Opium War, Ningbo was forced to build a trading port according to” Five Ports Trade Treaty”, and came into use in 1844. Today, Ningbo is one of the most famous hometowns of oversea Chinese, with 300thousand oversea Chinese with Ningbo domicile living in more than 50countries and regions. And they are making great contributions to economy of Ningbo.

Being a tourist city with profound cultural background, Ningbo is abundant with lots of historical sites and splendid scenery. There are more than 200 cultural relic protection units of different grades in Ningbo, among which 7 are under the protection of the state and 29 are under the protection of the province. Ningbo is a city with strong connections with Buddhist and possesses famous temples. Tiantong Temple is famous for its wonderful scenery and delicate architectural style, with a history of 1600 years, has great influence in Japan and Southeast Asia; The Asoka Temple which has a history of 1700 years, houses rare Buddhist relics of Sakyamuni who is the founder of Buddhism. The two temples cover an area of 140thousand square meters, with majestic architecture and splendid scenery. Tianyi Pavilion, which is acclaimed as” a book city of the southern region”, was a private library and the oldest in Asia. Mt Xuedou Scenic Zone is also a hot attraction for its charming beauty.
