Situated on the southeast coastline, Xiamen is facing Taiwan across the strait. Covering an area of 1565 square kilometers with a population of 1.27 million, Xiamen is divided into six districts including Siming, Huli, Jimei, Tongan and Xiangan. Acclaimed as” Seaside Garden City”, Xiamen is one of the optimum habitations for its agreeable climate and charming seascape. Xiamen is listed as one of the excellent tourist cities in China and attracts more and more tourists to experience its magical sights and sounds.

Xiamen has been an important port in history. Due to its geographical location, Xiamen was unfortunately listed as one of the objects by invaders. After the Opium War, Xiamen was forced to be one of the five treaty ports along with Guangzhou, Fuzhou, Ningbo and Shanghai by the Treaty of Nanjing. The city, just like its brave people, did not succumb to the invaders and did not give up developing in spite of the pressure of the Western power. When China implemented the wise policy of opening and reforming, Xiamen caught its chance. Being one of the five Special Economic Zones, Xiamen develops its economy and improves people’s living standard level in an astonishing speed. Even today, Xiamen still boasts a magnificent city and a great place to do business, attracting a heavy foreign investment. Xiamen port is one of the top ten ports of China.

Xiamen enjoys a subtropical climate, featuring mildness and abundant rainfall. With the annual average temperature about 21 degree, Xiamen is covered blooming flowers all the year around. It is said that one can find a park in every 20 minutes walking in any direction, so Xiamen is acclaimed as the” Seaside Garden”. Charming islands, diverse reefs, strange rocks, old temples, blooming flowers and green trees, all these enhances others beauty, making Xiamen a fairyland. In bird’s eye, graceful Xiamen will give you a feeling of” the city is on the sea and the sea in the city”. Being a combination of distinctive folk customs, seaside snacks and exotic architecture, coupled with soft beaches, mild sunshine, Xiamen is an ideal tourist destination. Thanks to its agreeable environment, there are tens of thousands egrets inhabit in Xiamen which forms a unique natural sight. Hence, Xiamen drives its nickname of” Egret Island” from the special sight.

Xiamen is a famous home of overseas Chinese. Today, there are over 350,000 overseas Chinese with ancestors from Xiamen. The overseas Chinese have been making great contributions to Xiamen’s development.

There are more than 20 minorities in Xiamen. Their special customs and festivals are appealing to numerous tourists. In addition, the delicious foods and snacks are also unresisting lures to tourists.
