Except for the relatively humid Greater Hinggan Mountain Area, the greater part of Inner Mongolia is arid, semi-arid and semi-humid from west to east. It has a mean annual temperature of -1oC-15oC -- the hottest month, July, averaging 15-25oC and the coldest month, January, -30-10oC -- and a mean annual precipitation of 100-500 mm. Genghis Khan Mausoleum
The Genghis Khan Mausoleum is located in about 15km southeast of Atengxilian town of Ikinholo Banner in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The old name of Genghis Khan was Temujin, who was born in 1162 in a noble family of a Mongolian tribe. With his wisdom and intrepidity, he gradually unified Mongolia. In 1206, all chieftains of the tribes in Mongolia convened a meeting at the bank of the Wonan River, jointly choosing Temujin as the Great Khan, and calling him Genghis Khan. Genghis Khan was such an outstanding politician, militarist who overawed Europe and Asia. Riding the whirlwind in his whole life, he fought with enemies, conquered the Central Asia, and established by far the most capacious Mongolia Great Empire of the border in the world, striding Eurasia.

Xilamuren Grassland
Xilamuren, meaning "yellow river" in Mongolian, is located 100 kilometers north of Hohhot. Xilamuren Prairie, commonly known as Taihe, got its name from the Puhui Temple, a Lama temple built in the Qing Dynasty near the Xilamuren River. Constructed in 1769 during the reign of Emperor Qianlong, Puhui Temple was initially a resort of the Sixth Panchen Lama of Xilitu of Huhhot. With engraved beams and pictured purlins, the temple appears quite splendid. Xilamuren Prairie, a typical example on the plateau, is covered by green grass and fresh flowers every summer and autumn. Due to the continual investment of the local government, reception service is growing better and better. Thus, Xilamuren has become a popular scenic spot in Inner Mongolia.

Nadaam Festival
The Nadaam festival, or eriyn gurvan nadaam, is the biggest festival of the year for Mongolians. Usually occuring in July, it runs for three days in all parts of the country and highlights the greatest athletes in horse racing, archery, and wrestling: Mongolia's most popular sports. Women participate in all but the wrestling category. The word Nadaam means game or competition in Mongolian. Competitions take place days on the first two and merry-making is reserved for the third. This festival has been held for centuries as a form of memorial celebration, as an annual sacrificial ritual honoring various mountain gods or to celebrate a community endeavor. The festivities kick off with a colorful parade of athletes, monks, soldiers marching in perfect uniformity, musicians performing powerful military tunes, and Mongolians dressed in Chinggis-style warrior uniforms.
