Jinan
Jinan is near Mount Tai to the south and neighbors the Yellow River on the north. The terrain of Jinan slopes down from south to north and its landforms vary with hills, plains in front of the mountains and the alluvial plains of the Yellow River. There are two major water systems in Jinan-- the Yellow River and the Xiaoqing River. Daming Lake and Baiyun Lake are the major lakes.

Jinan is an essential birthplace of the civilization in China. Shun, a chieftain of the pristine tribe was born and lived around Jinan before 2500 years. Taishan Mount
Tai Shan’s importance to Chinese mythology can not be overstated. Visiting the mountain is more than a mountain climbing excursion; it is a pilgrimage to China’s most sacred mountain.

Mount Taishan, with its main peak rising 1,545 meters above sea level, in central Shandong Province, has been a mountain held in high esteem by the Chinese people since ancient times. According to historical records, Mount Taishan became a sacred place haunted by emperors to offer sacrifices and meditate in the Zhou Dynasty over 1,000 years before the Christian era. A total of 72 emperors were recorded as visiting it. Men of letters also came to acquire inspiration, to compose poems, write essays, paint and take pictures. Hence, a great many cultural relics were left on the mountain.
Mount Taishan became part of the world cultural heritage list in 1987.
