Heavenly Lake, called
Tianchi in Chinese, is a place that you will never forget.
It is 115 km east of Urumqi at an elevation of 1980 meters.
The small, deep-blue lake is surrounded by hills covered
with fir trees and grazed by horses. Scattered around
are the yurts of the Kazak people who inhabit the mountains;
in the distance are the snow-covered peaks of the Tianshan
range, and you can climb the hills right up to the snow
line.
The roads are open only in summer months because
of the lake freezing over in Xinjiang’s bitter winter.In
summer, the beautiful lake is an ideal cool resort. There
are boat cruises on the lake. Boaters on the lake see
the ever-changing silvery mountains soaring into the
blue sky, their slopes highlighted with verdant pasture
and flamboyant wild flowers. Fishing at dusk has its
own special charm. |
