The best time to visit is Autumn as the weather is bit coller and dryer. Summer can be unpleasantly hot, and the winter can get a bit chilly. Li River Cruise in Guilin: Guilin is like most other medium size Chinese cities, other than it has a large amount of western-style hotels, tourists. Many Chinese domestic tourists also visit this area because of picturesque limestone mountains and formations.
River cruise down the Li River to Yangsuo on tour boats is first choice for most travelers to this area. Travel agency can book the boats for you in advance .Yangshuo is a very beautiful village downstream. The river winds through some truly spectacular limestone formations.It will take a whole day that slow boat trip to Yangsuo and back (with a stop in Yangshuo).
If you have extra time,you also can book a tour to the terraced rice fields about an hour outside of the city.
Rice Noodles a popular food in Guilin: The local delicious food is Guilin Rice Noodles (Gui Lin Mi Fen), also available as stir-fried (Chao Fen). Traditionally the noodle and the topping is first eaten without soup, and once the topping has run out there is usually a pot of soup to add flavor to the rest of your noodles. There are also various pickles and condiments that you can add to your noodles. This is served everywhere.
Belonging to the subtropical region,Guilin enjoys a Mild climate with sufficient rainfall. Its yearly average temperature is 18.8'C, and the hottest month, August, has an average temperature of 28'C, while the coldest months, which are January and February are 8'C on the average. Du Fu,a very famous poet of Tang Dynasty so said of its climate: "When it is scorchingly hot everywhere in the Five Ridges, only Guilin has temperate weather."
